World Series Final Game Captures 51 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling extended matchup where the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a aggregate 51 million viewers in the United States, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB announced this is the highest-rated World Series Game 7 since the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Television Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s memorable contest secured over 27 million audience members on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 edition final game between the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This represents a 16% improvement over the last Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed fourth, Game 4 ranked 7th, the fifth game was eighth, and the third game landed in 13th place.

Global Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded 11.6M watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English broadcast in Canada after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest began at 9 PM local time, it averaged 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – averaged 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Trends

The full seven-match World Series recorded 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two straight years.

Including the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the total US average reached over 16 million. The total World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent increase over last year and Fox’s strongest postseason performance since 2017.

MLB stated that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 various languages.
